At Başkent University, sustainability management is carried out within the framework of the "Green Campus" vision, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are used as a strategic tool at every stage of this process. The university has integrated its digital infrastructure into this process to minimize its environmental impact and manage sustainability data transparently. 

Since its establishment, Başkent University has placed great importance on the afforestation of its campus and surrounding areas. The foundation for projects aimed at protecting nature and wildlife was laid in 2006 when Prof. Dr. Mehmet HABERAL, founder of Başkent University, began raising awareness by adopting the endangered Anatolian Leopard. Campus stands out as one of Türkiye’s distinguished green campuses, reflecting its respect for every aspect of nature. As Başkent University, we aim to be recognized as a leading university in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings in Türkiye and globally by preparing our sustainability report and increasing our activities in this regard, as a continuation of our environmental awareness efforts. Our goal is not merely to secure a place in this ranking, but also to fulfill our social responsibilities in addressing global environmental issues, contribute to the development and protection of human and environmental rights, and further advance our mission of nurturing sensitive and conscious individuals who are committed to these values. The report outlines the achievements Başkent University has accomplished up to 2026, presents the activities carried out, and sets forth the core strategies of our institution. In addition to highlighting our accomplishments, this report serves as a guide to better identify our needs and define our course of action in any emerging situation. The 2026 Sustainability Report, coordinated by Başkent University’s Sustainable Environment Research Centre, refers to the seven criteria specified in the UI GreenMetric Rankings: environment and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, education and research and governance and Digitalization, which includes all of Başkent University’s environmental, social and sustainability practices. Başkent University has achieved the distinction of being ranked 101st in the world, 7th in Turkey, and 1st in Ankara in the 2025 UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings. Our university rose 28 places in the UI GreenMetric rankings compared to last year, increasing its total score to 8600 points, making it the 101st most sustainable university in the world. Having been ranked as Ankara’s most sustainable private university for the fifth consecutive year in the UI GreenMetric rankings, our university became Ankara’s 1st most sustainable university in 2025.The progress recorded in the UI GreenMetric Sustainable University Rankings demonstrates that all the work we have carried out across all categories since 2018 has brought Başkent University closer to its sustainability goals. As Başkent University, we are aware of our environmental responsibilities and will continue to increase our contributions to a sustainable world for the present and future generations. The practical realization of a sustainable campus is only possible through successful collaboration involving campus management, academic and administrative staff, and students. We sincerely thank everyone who has supported our university in achieving its sustainability goals.
